Recently Matt Edgers (my crazy ass roommate) and myself decided that we would head up to Mt. Baker and do something to give back to the mountains that give us so much year after year. We were not doing anything in late October so we decided to head up to out local Mt. Baker and collect some trash from some areas we knew had experienced heavy traffic from snowboarders and skiers during the last few seasons and just check out the mountains before the season got under way.

We walked in the rain together for about two hours finding old cigarette butts, recyclable cans, 6 pack tops, beer cans, etc? It made me think about the importance of each and every person doing his or her part. It does not always have to be some hyped up thing with company banners, a beer garden or some jib contest. Sometimes it is up to each and every one of us to go to the mountains and give back a little bit.

I don?t mean to hippy out to hard on the world or anything like that. I just know the importance of what the mountains give each and every one of us and what small ways that we as individuals can give back a bit. I suggest that before the snow falls head up to one of your favorite resorts by yourself or with a friend and pick up couple buckets worth of trash.

Believe me it will make you feel better about yourself, your impact on the mountains, and most importantly it will keep the mountains as beautiful as we all know that they are. Not only for us but for our kids and their kids. Thanks for lending your ear and thanks to Matt for rolling up that sketchy hike with your arm in that sling and what not.
